JETSI project partner, Schneider, is an industry leader in the transition to zero-emission commercial transportation with a battery-electric truck (BET) fleet of nearly 100 trucks.
Driver and trainer, Marty Boots shares his experience driving battery-electric trucks from the prototype model to the production model of the Freightliner eCascadia.
“The biggest deficit everyone points to is the range of the batteries but with learning how to use the technologies that Freightliner has put in the trucks, you can extend that range,” said Boots.
Schneider is deploying 50 battery-electric trucks at its South El Monte, California facility as part of the JETSI project—a landmark initiative to demonstrate strategies to successfully scale market penetration of zero-emission freight trucks.
JETSI is jointly financed by California Air Resources Board and California Energy Commission ($26.98 million), MSRC ($8 million), and South Coast AQMD ($5.4 million), with an additional $21.7 million from Port of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison, NFI, and Schneider. JETSI is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
