Technicians from Velocity Vehicle Group, one of the largest full-service commercial truck dealerships in the U.S, guided students from Rio Hondo College’s electric vehicle maintenance program through the dealer group’s Whittier maintenance shop for an up-close look at the diverse career opportunities available due to growing zero-emission vehicle market share. With an increasing number of fleets in California transitioning to battery-electric trucks (BETs), Velocity and other area dealerships are investing in workforce development initiatives for maintenance and repair technicians to ensure the smooth operation of electric trucks and charging infrastructure.
JETSI is jointly financed by California Air Resources Board and California Energy Commission ($26.98 million), MSRC ($8 million), and South Coast AQMD ($5.4 million), with an additional $21.7 million from Port of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison, NFI, and Schneider. JETSI is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
